The mission of my dance-journey is to raise awareness on water stewardship. Representing the unifying nature of water, "Hamon-ring on the water (“Hamon”)" integrates dance, storytelling, sound instrumentation and digital projections.
I utilize Butoh’s internal focus and intense organic movement that is grounded in intention, storytelling, and gravity-based movement. Through Butoh, I found Noguchi Taiso technique which informs my artistic inspiration and transforms unconscious movement into a choreographic approach. Noguchi Taiso technique taps the dancer’s internal images and energy and inner water flows. It facilitates the exploration of gravity and creates an earth-bound grace, which guided me to the connection with water. Life came from water and the human body is on average 60% made of water. It led me to think about ocean contamination including the leak of radioactivity in Fukushima, Japan.
I intend to draw attention to the ongoing environmental destruction and raise awareness for the necessity of preserving wildlife. Living in the age of plenty, we need to change our behaviors based on the never-ending hunger that exploits natural resources.
